Biography

Shawne Brown is a photographer based in Nashville, Tennessee, where he lives with his wife, two sons, and two aloof cats. He was born near Kingsport in northeast Tennessee, and he studied photography at East Tennessee State University, where he earned his Master of Fine Arts. Brown's photographs primarily address the cultural and physical landscape of his home state, its connections to regional and national history, and the area's rapid changes as well as its resistance to such change. His work has been featured by the Oxford American, the Tennessean, Aint-Bad, and FotoFilmic among others, and will be highlighted in an upcoming documentary (fall 2026) on the development of the Neuhoff property in Nashville. Brown continues to build on this growing archive of photographs in preparation for exhibition and publication.
